miniblogging? webIM?

As I continue to attempt to familiarize myself with all the current web services out there I have come across a group of services that focus on sharing quick messages of what you are up to with friends and family. Although this seems like a simple yet useful service it is actually quite confusing when you try to figure out what you want to use and how to tie them all together. I found an article that pretty much walks you through connecting them all together. Right now I am going to use Pownce as my primary and have it feed tumblr, jaiku, and twitter. Now all I have to do is get my friends and family to use one of these services!
