Senator Kevin L. Bryant is an Embarrassment to S.C.

Today I learned (via a Digg post linking to a Huffington Post article) that a South Carolina State Senator posted this image on his Blog.

Until I get a published apology I will do everything in my power to return his political favor (I always wondered what would get me into politics). So far I have publicly informed him that he is an embarrassment to our state. I actually posted it twice because I went to another computer and the first comment didn’t show up so I assumed he removed it so I posted it again. When the page reloaded it was there twice (doh!). Oh well. Here it is in case he does remove them both.

You say embarrassment, i’m now thinking of moving to SC

Zane Perry - July 23, 2008 - 12:25 pm

Haha!

You would post that.

BTW, he removed my post. Time to put it back up.

Zane Perry - July 23, 2008 - 12:41 pm

I called Glenn F. McConnell’s office and found that he is actually in Charleston. Apparently he is at the Gallery – CSA whatever that is. I will attempt to contact him but doubt I will be successful. Anyway, his office tried to forward me to Jeff Gauset the Senate Clerk but he was unavailable (maybe making the call at 12pm EST was a good idea!). The same happened with Harvey Peelers Office – Head of the Senate Republican Caucus. Eventually I gave my name and number to Glenn’s secretary who is going to have Lisa Sox, Executive Director of the Senate Republican Caucus call me. More to come (I think I might try to record the rest of these conversations for everyone’s enjoyment. Lets see where my State Senate stands on this kind of trash.

Just talked to Glen McConnell’s brother. Apparently the two brothers own a store in Charleston. He gave me some good ideas like calling the Anderson Independant (Kevin is from Anderson S.C. up in the North West portion of S.C.). After searching I found the Independents webpage and they are very well aware of this picture.

I was unable to get a position from Glen’s brother on whether Glen supports this picture posting or not. He did tell me after I described the picture to him that he thought “it’s cute”. I told him I disagree. Guess I will have to visit the gallery to get an opinion from Glen.

what the hell does a pharmacist know about foreign policy?

Zane Perry - July 23, 2008 - 2:34 pm

Good question Andy.

I just posted a comment on the Anderson Independent Mail’s article.

“Excellent Story Brad. This is making national news and should be discussed in your local paper since it is in fact your Senator who is embarrassment your city & our state.

Kevin Bryant’s picture post and most of your responses are typical republican ignorance that I expect from North West South Carolina. Your lack of education and political buffoonery makes your city our states political armpit. For those of you who live in Anderson, are not idiots and do see the damage this post has done, demand Kevin post an apology or support his Democratic opponent (Who’s name Brad has decided to leave off). You don’t deserve trash like Kevin.

Kevin,

Enjoy your 15 mins of fame. Now go back to your pharmacy and stop embarrassing the rest of your state. You hold public office and the public pays your salary. Remember, what the public gives the public can take away.

In closing, a joke (since this is obviously how you guys communicate up there)

Q. How are Obama and Osama the same?
A. Republicans can’t catch either one.

Stay classy Anderson!”

You Liberals are pathetic. Get over your so called savior obama. He nothing but a mouth-piece. He has no clue what he’s talking about. When he speaks from his mind, he makes the most ridiculous and ignorant remarks. Like we as Americans should be worrying about making our own kids speak Spanish, rather than making illegal immigrants learn English. Look at how stupid he is without a teleprompter. You Liberals are going to be the destruction of this country.

Zane Perry - July 23, 2008 - 3:03 pm

I am sorry SCPride but the things that worry me are much more important then my kids speaking Spanish and I have seen Obama speak off teleprompter and I disagree with you. The things I worry about include getting out of wars that are bankrupting our country (remember one of the reasons the U.S.S.R. failed because it’s economy collapsed and it continued to attempt to maintain a war in Afghanistan until it went bankrupt). This war is spilling American’s blood for causes the Bush Administration concocted out of thin air. In my opinion every dead soldiers blood (all 4124 of them) is on your party’s hands. Now Kevin Bryant has the audacity to ridicule Obama’s foreign policy and you have the balls to call Liberal’s pathetic. How brave of you.

Zane Perry - July 23, 2008 - 5:20 pm

I just got off the phone with Douglas Ford (Communications Director for Senate Majority Caucus). He was unable to provide a quote but did inform me that the picture was posted on Gary’s personal blog and the photo is not funded in any way by the state senate. I explained that his page looks very official and even has the words “Thank you for visiting the Legislatures first Blog”. After explaining that I was looking for an official position from the Senate either supporting or denouncing the post he told me he would see what he could get and would call me tomorrow. More to come tomorrow.

Anderson Resident - July 23, 2008 - 10:28 pm

As a resident of Anderson, I just wanted to say that I find it extremely alarming that you would post personal info about Sen. Bryant (his wife and children’s names) in an article designed to get people angry. Regardless about how you feel about Sen. Bryant, you have no business bringing his family into this. I think you need to remove that information ASAP.

Zane Perry - July 23, 2008 - 11:08 pm

That is a reasonable request. Their names have been removed. The only reason they were there in the first place is they were in the Bio pages I copied and pasted from.

The only article written to get people angry was Kevin’s. Now can you do me a favor and request that your Senator act with some dignity and remove his post and apologize for his ignorance.

dusty - July 24, 2008 - 2:00 pm

maybe Kevin Bryant has the audacity to ridicule Obama’s foreign policy because Obama simply says whatever he thinks people want to hear at that time. Ex:Obama said that as commander in chief he would remove troops from Iraq and putting them “on the right battlefield in Afghanistan and Pakistan.” Just in case you are confused this is the same man who last month was saying we need our troops home now!! Evidently what he didn’t say was that he did’t want to end the war just move it over a little bit. I personally can’t wait to hear what completely changed ideal Obama will come up with next week. Oh and Zane where can i get one of those shirts.

Zane Perry - July 24, 2008 - 2:59 pm

Apparently they sold them at the Texas GOP convention.

My issue with Kevin Bryant is not that he has a problem with Obama’s foreign policy. That argument is the entire foundation for the GOP & McCain. My issue is he is sitting in public office and should not partake in political slander as audacious as this.

I’ll make you one @ Cafe Press. I think wearing it will do more damage to the McCain party then good and I will donate all profits to the Obama campaign.

dusty - July 24, 2008 - 4:05 pm

it will go well with my other favorite shirt

dusty - July 24, 2008 - 4:08 pm

oh and if it were a shirt making fun of Mcain (obviously not your vote) would u even care. As may hero Jim Norton once said, nobody has a problem with a joke until it hits close to home.

Zane Perry - July 25, 2008 - 2:43 am

If a shirt making fun of McCain tried to compare him to Osama I like to think I would act the same way and make a phone call. At the very least I would understand your complaint.

dusty - July 25, 2008 - 9:50 am

so if he compared Obama to say Curious George you wouldn’t have a problem then because that is a great shirt too

Senator Bryant now post that he “wanted to create a local discussion of Sen. Obama’s weak commitment to the war on terror”.
His original post had nothing to do with Senator Obama’s commitment to the war on terror. The obvious intent was to depict Obama as a Muslim and/or a terrorist. The logic was that considering Obama sounds like Osama and that if dressed somewhat alike, they must be the same. His message was that if we vote for Obama, it would equate to a vote for Osama because their names are simular. Senator Obama has already been accused of being a Muslim, something that has been proven to be untrue. Senator Brayant’s post was an attempt to rekindle that false notion. To try to sell this concept based on a man’s name and looks is something that isn’t expected out of an elected representative of a state. It’s considerably disturbing that he now flip flops by saying his intentions was to bring up a disscusion on Sen Obama’s stand on the war. What does his looks or the sound of his name have to do with his political thinking?

I just found out that the “South Carolina Chamber of Commerce” endorsed Kevin L. Bigot. Time to act.

Email to the South Carolina Chamber of Commerc:

I have recently been informed that the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce supports Kevin Bryant for Senate District 3.

http://kevinbryant.com/2008/09/29/chamber-of-commerce-endorsement/

Is this true? Are you aware of the actions of Kevin Bryant and his posting of racist and simply inappropriate pictures on his website comparing Obama to Osama Bin Laden (File Attached)?

Here are a couple articles

If the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce does in fact back Kevin Bryant I will begin a campaign of my own to contact as many of your members as possible to inform them that your organization supports bigotry. I am sick and tired of this State accepting open racism and political trash like this.

Please withdraw your endorsement of Kevin Bryant immediately. I have cc’d the NAACP in order to enlighten them on your organizations position. I look forward to your response.
